Iraqi-German Protest, Berlin, Germany

While walking around the streets of Berlin, we came across this protest by Iraqi-Turks (further explanation on the series page). Despite the menacing look of the security forces, the police were remarkably restrained. Women played a central role in the protests, carrying the banners, holding up babies, and firing up the protesters with megaphones. The protesters were remarkably orderly (this is Germany, I guess) and after chanting, furling banners, and several passionate speeches, they disbursed peacefully.

From the Europe 2004 series.
