Buddhist Temple, Penang

In Penang, there is a major Buddhist temple. Actually, Penang is a very interesting place as all three of Malaysia's religions exist quite happily side by side: Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism.

This is one of my favorite photographs. It also breaks one of my cardinal rules of photoethnograph: always have informed consent. I'm not fond of photos taken without the subject's consent, but in this case it was impossible to obtain. Nonetheless, from a purely formal aesthic perspective, this is one of my best photos.

From the Malaysia 2002 series.
