Anti-Abortion Protesters at the Code Pink Rally, Washington DC, March 8, 2003

The anti-War women's movement, Code Pink, held a large national rally in front of the White House on March 8th, 2003. Women from all across the country attended (indeed, several of my undergraduate students from Minnesota were there). As Code Pink demonstrated in front of the White House, a group of about a dozen pro-life/anti-abortion activists held a counter protest in front of them.

All of the pro-life counter-protesters were men. The man in the black T-shirt with the megaphone is one of them. The man holding up his fist with his wife looking on is a counter-counter-protester, angry that the pro-life people were trying to co-opt the anti-war movement.

There were almost as many photographers and journalists as protesters. There were certainly more secret service and park police than everyone combined.
