Village Man with Bird

While continuing on my scooter around the island counter-clockwise, near the south side of the island I met this man in a small rural village. He was taking his pet bird out for a walk. He is most probably ethnic Chinese.

Malaysia has had a huge influx of transnational manufacturing conglomerates from Japan, the United States, and Europe -- and much of this centered in Penang. This is part of the Wawasan 2020 Project to modernize the nation. However, most of the country remains largely rural and largely poor.
