Tatami Worker
Kanazawa Japan

Kanazawa City is located north of Kyoto, near the Sea of Japan. It's an old castle city, one of the old regional centres of trade and commerce.

This man was making tatami in a store located in the older part of the town. Tatami making is a dying art. The older practioners are not able to find new apprentices for a difficult and demanding profession.

His was literally a mom-and-pop operation. The wife worked in the back of the store.
