The two women above are representatives from the Japan Communist Party, which has been the party with the staunchest opposition to the government's proposed plans. Unfortunately, the JCP is politically very weak with only about 2% of the lower house.

The man to the left of the women is Representative Asahi, of the Democratic Party of Japan. Asahi has been very supportive of the opposition movement and the disability community. I've seen him at practically every disability event that I've been to. However, the DPJ itself is fractured internally and has not been able to mount a united front against the LDP-Komeito coalition.

The frustration and concern of the protesters is evident on their faces as they listen to the politicians speak.
